Who we are
It starts with Education

What is My Saltwater Classroom?
Saltwater Classroom is a Maine-based 501(C)3 non-profit organization that is committed to a new wave of ocean education.
We believe that the first step towards a sustainable future on our Blue Planet is a renewed emphasis on ocean literacy. From education stems passion, and from passion blooms stewardship.
In 2016, in a small school in the cerros, or hills, above a coastal Chilean city, Alexandra Doudera first had the vision for what would become Saltwater Classroom.
She envisioned an opportunity for young students, like the ones pictured here, to learn about the ocean and connect with one another, growing a global network of ocean stewards.
