You’ll practice organizing your gear, thinking through what you really need, and applying the ABCs of packing to make your trip safe and enjoyable.

Pack a bag for a day hike, beach, or nature adventure — and then go outside!
When packing, remember the ABCs of packing:
- Accessibility: Keep your most-used items easy to reach.
- Balance: Distribute weight evenly so your bag is comfortable to carry.
- Compression: Pack tightly and efficiently to save space.
Not every adventure requires the same gear. Part of planning is deciding what you need and what you can leave behind.
To help remember the essentials, think:

Here’s what that means:
- Safety: Plan ahead and prepare to ensure a safe trip.
- Navigation: Bring a map and compass.
- Sun Protection: Hat, sunglasses, sunscreen.
- Nutrition: Healthy snacks to keep your energy up.
- Fire: Matches, lighter, or fire starter (only when appropriate and supervised).
- Insulation: Extra clothing layers and rain gear.
- Tools: Timepiece, knife, tarp, or repair kit.
- Hydration: Full water bottles or hydration pack.
- Illumination: Headlamp and extra batteries.
- First Aid Kit: Bandages, gauze, antiseptic wipes, ointment, tweezers, gloves, emergency blanket, and personal items like an inhaler or EpiPen.
Once your bag is ready, head outside for your own mini adventure and notice how being prepared helps you enjoy the day.
